KW Institute is a spacious venue for art, with a charming inner yard, and many floors, right in the gallery-packed Auguststraße. While sipping a coffee in the yard, the glass cube café will throw your image right back at you.
The place is one of the first transformed industrial spaces through arts in the city. Meanwhile, KW has become the main venue of the Berlin Biennial, in collaboration with various other places around the city. Besides hosting interdisciplinary exhibitions on a rotation basis – with artists such as Hiwa K., Felix Gonzalez Torres, Anthony McCall, or William Forsythe – KW also has an art residency programme and offers working space to invited artists.
Despite being an established art venue by now, KW has never ceased to collaborate with the off scene of the city – a great place for ongoing conversations on contemporary art and the city.
Tip: The entrance is free on Thursdays from 18:00 on.
