You know how city centers are very similar? You can find the same shops, people and areas turned into outdoor malls which become dead at night. It can make you lose hope in your search for the real character of the world you are traveling in… If you find some streets interesting by day they will have lost all their appeal by closing time. But if you stay vigilant there might be a tiny light in the darkness here or there, like eschschloraque for example.
The first time a wise friend gave me the address of the Lebensmittel restaurant as meeting point I didn’t believe him: this address? A good restaurant? A trap for lost tourists for sure I thought! And I could not’ve been more wrong. The same kind of story would be repeated when I’d give this address to other friends.
The name of the restaurant speaks for itself: you get what you need to survive, the menu is human sized, the schnitzel is not, the quality’s definitively there and the staff makes you feel as if you were visiting friends. A lot of meat on the South German-inspired menu, beer of course but also a very good wine selection, even German wine! I always come back for a tartare, even late in the evening.
It’s better to book a bit in advance, but if you can wait you’ll always find a table. I particularly like this restaurant’s closing time, thinking you are the last customer served.
