But in order to spoil it a bit – only by word – I can tell you it is not a speciality from Berlin, it comes from South Germany and is part of the “Schwäbische” specialities. To promote and explain their work, the restaurant has put a lot of images and explanations on its website. The key being good food needs to be freshly made. I have visited the place both in winter and summer, always satisfied and proud to give back my empty plate.
Another way to judge the seriousness of a restaurant is to look at its side dishes. The green vegetables or potato salad usually served with the Maultaschen are delicious, a good point for them. As for a drink to go with your meal you may be tempted by beer from the black forest, Rothaus beer is served “von fass”. If the beer bottle version is easy to find in Berlin, its draft version is more seldom found, another reason to visit this place.
In summer, like many restaurants in Berlin, it is the occasion for them to almost double the number of seats as they extend the dining room onto the street. With the street being so large you never feel that you are eating in the middle of the street.
