St George is an English bookstore in Wörtherstrasse, priding itself for holding the largest collection of English books in Berlin and even beyond. The place is packed with new and second hand books in English, and those species of rare books too. Written by English writers or translated into English.
Some time ago, I found Bukowski’s “What matters most is how well you walk through the fire” there. I opened the book by chance and got to stare at two white pages. And remembered I wanted to write about the place. St George has a large collection of poetry, literature and philosophy, but there is probably a bit of everything for everyone in there.
Such a location has the ability of weaving its own story. And on top of everything, the team behind the books is very friendly. Every now and then, they also organize evenings meant to bring people together, to read each other or to each other.
