Imagine you are at an airport heading to your plane. Now remove the piles of luggage and the planes. Leave kites instead, asphalt surfers and 1001 types of bikes. Now speed up on your bike right on the middle of the landing runway. You can even do that with your eyes shut.
The former Tempelhof airport was reopened as a park in 2010. This is a place pulsating with history and stories to tell. One now gets the feeling of being surrounded by sky. I worked for an interdisciplinary project for one summer directly on one of the landing runways and talked to visitors: 4 or 75 years old – everybody there was fascinated by the oasis in the middle of the city.
Marina is nostalgic about the time when the place had an in-between status, with just a few small planes and a few foxes at night. Adler flies here with her bike as often as possible. Ingrid comes by with her beautiful Akita. And Roland contemplates how people need to protest no matter what the stand is.
Christian started a small garden for conversations and Tarik & Martin dream of constructing a big ship here. Christian came here to listen to what an airport without planes sounds like. And Dorothee came to see what the wild plants are doing. And all of a sudden Gunther shows up with his bagpipe and drummers for a rehearsal. Are we like Alice in Wonderland? But Cordula, the security guard, lets us know that this is her playground.
