September 21st 2012, for one day people all over the world are going to turn a parking spot into a little park of their own for the day. All in the name of green!!
“Providing temporary public open space . . . one parking spot at at time.“
In 2005 a San Francisco design studio transformed a parking spot into a temporary public park, pictured below. And now it’s global! A similar project is Labplatz, which transformed car parks into green spaces in June of this year.
You’re free to join in on this day, pay the meter and go crazy with flowers, chairs and whatnot. The mission: “[...] to call attention to the need for more urban open space, to generate critical debate around how public space is created and allocated, and to improve the quality of urban human habitat … at least until the meter runs out!”
Happy gardening this Friday!

Fantastic! would love to make one in Riga.
If you do, let us know! Send pictures :)
