We continue last week’s selection of Vegetarian Restaurants in Europe with recommendations from our locals in North America. Most vegetarian diners will have seen that there are more and more options available for their preferred diet, however in this list we’re sticking to places that are genuinely vegetarian, or at least offer more than one simple vegetarian staple.
Life Alive, Boston
First off it’s Boston’s Life Alive, where Lia’s subtitle sums it up “Real food and birkenstocks“. Take that with a grain of salt folks, it’s just great, real food straight from a kitchen that specializes in organic vegan and vegetarian cuisine. Most of the ingredients used for the dishes are known for their health properties. And for you meat-eaters that are still on the fence about this form of dining out, the ‘Hot & Healthy Bachelor’ has been put to the carnivorous test and it passed!
Native Foods Cafe, Chicago
Jeremy from Chicago has a tip for authentic vegetarian dinner! It’s Native Foods Cafe on West Belmont Avenue, where a main meal will set you back a mere $ 10. His favorite, that’d be their Earth Bowls. But he also highlights their Bacon Cheeseburger, which obviously isn’t a bacon cheeseburger, but delicious none the less!
Trails Cafe, Los Angeles
Los Angeles’ Trails Cafe lives up to its name. It’s an actual timber cabin nestled in Griffith Park among the several hiking trails you can find there. All the goods on offer are homemade, organic centric, vegetarian friendly and health conscious. Their most famous dish? That’d be the avocado sandwich according to Amelia.
Santa Barbara, Montreal
Santa Barbara in Montreal is what Julie calls a Flexitarian restaurant. It’s mainly vegetarian cooking, but there are some carnivore friendly dishes for those that haven’t found the courage to try excluding meats from a meal. (It can be done folks.)
Silence Heart Nest, Seattle
Next up, Silence Heart Nest in Seattle. Hafidha writes, “All the food is vegetarian – yes, even the “meatloaf” and burgers. And it’s consistently tasty with the freshness and flavors of a home kitchen. There’s an excellent selection for those who eat vegan or gluten-free diets […] My favorites are the pancakes, hot ginger drink, lentil soups, soup and salad combo, gravy, scrambles and whatever their specials are.”
Fresh on Queen Street West, Toronto! Local Sarah had a hard time dining out as a vegetarian in the country, but in the city she can choose from many great places. However, according to her, nowhere else are the options more plentiful or more delicious than at Fresh. High praise indeed!
Over in Vancouver, one of Maya’s tips is Graze. This place proves that it is indeed possible to have delicious vegetarian food. “Graze proves that vegetarian and vegan food can rival gourmet meals with meat. Locally grown, totally vegetarian and vegan gourmet food, Graze has become one of my favourite brunch and dinner spots.”
Disclaimer: Keep in mind, it’s a selection of our locals’ recommendations from their respective city blogs ;-). One can never have enough veggie restaurants at their disposal, so browse the blogs for more tips as there are many more!
