Most of my Spotted by Locals articles betray my love of good beer, good books, and good chocolate, but there is another thing I love to do around here - run! My current favorite spot to do so is around Jamaica Pond, where I can escape city life and enjoy the colorful foliage that graces New England in the fall.
The pond is in Jamaica Plain, where wealthy Bostonians used to keep vacation homes a century or two ago. Now, JP, as we refer to it, is a popular neighborhood for students, artists, and young professionals, and a great place to visit if you’re looking for a less touristy vibe.
The loop around Jamaica Pond is 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers), so it’s a good distance to do once if you’re just starting out or a few times for a longer run. If the weather is nice, I also love renting a rowboat or sailboat from the Jamaica Pond Boathouse with friends and enjoying the breeze. The air always seems cleaner at the pond than it does along the Charles!
