If you’re a cider fan visiting Boston: look no further, all your answers are here. Downeast Cider House, located just outside of Boston in Charlestown, not only produces several amazing seasonal flavors of cider, but also has a bar in-house. Here, you can relax at their rustic bar while sipping fresh cider that was brewed about 20 feet away.
One of the differentiating aspects of Downeast Cider is that its recipe seems to dial down on the sweetness relied on by many cider brands and instead focuses on highlighting the flavor. While their original-style is fantastic, they really shine with their seasonal flavors. Their pumpkin ciders are a perfect accompaniment to the autumn colors of Boston, while their Summer Blend has the perfect amount of citrus zest and ginger snap to refresh you on a hot afternoon.
If you’re interested in the brewing process, Downeast Cider also offers tours of their brewery, paired with samples of each of their different blends. If you’re a fan of their work, you can pick up a branded glass at the end of the tour, or a (refillable!) growler full of cider to bring home.
