Hidden in the ugly slab of concrete that is Back Bay Station is a brightly coloured, highly flavourful little juice shop.
While trendy – there are SoulCycle classes nearby, after all – Jugos isn’t as obnoxiously “healthy” as some other juice places in the city, instead offering a mix of bottles with ingredients like kale and beets but also smoothies with easily recognizable fruits like strawberries and bananas. And fret not, their acai bowls are perfectly instagrammable.
The shop is reminiscent of a shack on an island offering fresh juices bursting with flavour, giving Jugos a considerably more fun, grab and go vibe than others. The tropical vibe is a godsend on colder days, and the fresh flavours can transport you to somewhere a little more hospitable.
They have, in my opinion, the best smoothies in the city. They’re thick and natural, rather than leaning heavily towards the juice cocktails or powder-filled sugar bombs similar shops serve. While there’s very little space to move, let alone eat at the Dartmouth Street location, Jugos also serves some great toasts, chia seed puddings, and other light bites.
My favourite option the menu is the Nantucket; a smoothie made with steel cut oats, blueberry, cinnamon, banana, honey, and almond milk. It tastes like breakfast in a cup, just the right balance of healthy and genuinely enjoyable, and that’s what makes Jugos such a pleasure to visit.
