First of all, Meštiansky pivovar is a brewery. Slovakia is a country with a strong beer culture but for a long time I thought that the diversity wasn’t our strongest point. Meštiansky pivovar was one of the first examples to prove me wrong. Several small producers are established all over the country…and also in Bratislava. So this spot is the best place to try its own 100% local beer you couldn’t find in a supermarket.
But beer is not the only reason why I wanted to talk about this place. This might be a very controversial point and many might disagree, therefore I’ll just stress that what’s coming is a personal opinion. When it comes to bryndzové halušky, our national meal, everyone has his own preferences However there is one condition we all agree on: good halušky must be fresh, which means made from fresh potatoes (if you’re not careful when picking the restaurant you’ll end up with halusky “from a box”, made with powder semi-product). You don’t have to worry about the quality here so if you like strong flavored cheese and you’re eager to discover something new, you’re at the right place.
