Although it’s hard to imagine when you look at it now, Dunaj used to be the biggest shopping mall of Bratislava (so says my grandma). Now looking quite unattractive, it hides a treasure on the 4th floor. Where to begin! In KC Dunaj there is something to do all week long. During the week there are mainly cultural events centered around literature, theatre, discussion sessions or movies; as the weekend approaches, so does party time (if you want to try something special, try to get a ticket for the Swing or Retro party if you’re here on the right weekend…and don’t forget to dress up!); and Sundays are made for rest: it’s the board games evening. And of course, you can also just come anytime to have a drink with your friends.
Although not on regular basis, KC Dunaj also hosts a “vintage market” called Retro burza on Saturdays. Here you can find stands offering vintage objects (I myself am a proud owner of an umbrella from the 60’s, let’s hope it serves longer than its younger predecessors) but also hand-made products of all sorts (mainly accessories, but it doesn’t stop there). It’s hard to leave empty handed :).
And I kept the best for the end: go take a tour on the terrace. It’s one of my favorite views of the historical center, with its roofs spread under your eyes and topped by the castle. Whether it’s summer or winter, it’s worth enjoying the sight at least for a while.
