Lumiѐre Cinema is the best art cinema in Bratislava. Its programme is far away from main stream, the movies played here are not played in multiplex cinemas, so they give you an insight into top artistic, non commercial cinematography.
Today’s Lumiѐre is the new version of the old Charlie’s cinema. The Charlie’s with its three cinema halls was closed, and remained so for almost two years. From a quality movies point of view these were the years of darkness in Bratislava. Fortunately, 5 September 2011 the cinema opened its gates again.
There are three cinema halls in function with fair technology and comfort. So the “Light” (“Lumiѐre”) came back to us and it plays at least four films each day. The cinema’s premises are also utilized by several film festivals in Bratislava, such as the International Film Festival in Bratislava, the International Francophone Film Festival in Bratislava or the Slovak Queer Film Festival.
All offer remarkable programmes, movies played are also on the most prestigious international film festivals of the word. No worries, if you do not speak Slovak, all movies are played here in original language, with Slovak or Czech subtitles. Do you speak English? David Lynch, Mike Leigh or Ken Loach will be understandable for you. Do you prefer Spanish? Pedro Almadóvar or Alejandro González Iñárritu movies are also played in Lumiѐre. And I could continue…Just check the programme updated each month and you will surely find something what will entertain and amaze you.
