Every July and August, the weirdest campsite ever opens in Ixelles, a 20-minutes walk from Brussels Grand Place.
To me it seems the backyard of a house, but the area is big and well-organized. You have showers and bathrooms, you have trees to find shade under in the rare hot days and you have tables.
During the other 10 months of the year, you would never think a campsite might appear there. It is tucked behind a church catering for the many Congolese living nearby. Go up following the dirt track, follow the signs, and then heaven appears. Sometimes I think I should take out my small tent and spend one night there, wouldn’t that be fun?
Just be careful…this campsite only caters for tents, if you have a caravan or RV you’d better move to the outskirts of town to more regular campsites.
If you come by car there’s parking too, and the closest bars, restaurants and shops are no more than 5 minutes walk away.
So…meeting you there?
