Belgium is known for beers and fries, so it’s about time that I talk to you about one of the best spots in town to eat some real fries! I’m ashamed I didn’t come up with the idea earlier (it took me nearly 5 years as a spotter before I finally wrote this article) but eating fries is so obvious to us and we know where to find the good ones.
Frit Flagey is one of them. I’m not going to tell you that it’s the best one in town: actually it’s difficult to say which one is the best, even if there’s a ranking of the best “fritkot” every year.
It all depends on how you like your fries: big and fat or small and crusty? Or is it the sauce which matters to you so you’ll vote for the ones with homemade mayonnaise? Or maybe you like it at any time of the day or night, so you’ll vote for the one with extended open hours?
A good tradition is to eat your fries in a bar in the area. In Flagey (see Place Flagey article), it’s so “trendy” that many bars don’t accept it, but if you go to Le Pantin (see Le Pantin Article), Le Flip Bar or Le Pitch Pin, they will welcome you properly!
And if the weather is good, you’ll eat it in the Place itself or near the ponds (See Ixelles Ponds Article)!
