I’ve lived far from my hometown Turin for quite many years, but I am very much attached to my city and my traditions. We, people from Piemonte, have a very reserved attitude towards our culture, our food and the beauties of our region. You can hardly find Piemontese restaurants around the world, that’s how we are, we like to keep our secrets.
But a few years ago, 3 young men from Turin decided to open a corner of Piemonte in Brussels. This is the Iosono Winebar. It’s a place where you can have lunch (better book in advance!), aperitif and dinner.
It has now become my “local”. When I do not know where to go or what to do, I head there for a chat with the owners, a glass of Nebbiolo wine and most likely dinner (I can’t resist the pasta there).
Apart from the friendliness of the staff, I love that everything is sourced from the Turin area. It’s not km0, but the quality is amazing, and you can taste it!
If you head there, you must try the “curenta” (raw meat Piemontese style), the agnolotti del plin (small ravioli. If available try the one in Barbera sauce) and the bunet (a dessert made of chocolate and amaretti). The only thing missing is the digestive from Turin, the San Simone, but they are working on sourcing it and making it available for us!
