La Basse-Cour – My extra living room

The first thing I do when I return to Brussels from a trip somewhere is to head to Basse-Cour with my friends. Ask Cliff for a glass (or bottle) of “L’exuberante” white wine and John for a board with ham and cheese. At that point I feel truly back home.

I discovered this place on the day of their opening a few months back, but I didn’t go again till the day my friend Ben suggested a night cap and some small food. That’s the first time I chatted with Cliff. He is French from Bordeaux and loves good wine, food, and life. He is the one who will be suggesting and then serving you your drinks. John is also french and he is the one behind the food counter. The “croques” (toasts) are yummy, just like the “Camembert in the oven” and the grilled vegetables. Check the boards for the daily suggestion.

The servings (both food and drinks) are generous and the food is super tasty.

What else can I say about my extended living room? That the soundtrack is spot-on and the smile (and kisses, by now we are friends!) I get when I come in are the best for forgetting the world outside and enjoying a nice evening with my friends.

What else?? See you there!
