L’Air Libre – Tea time at the bookshop

Around Flagey, there are many bars and places to eat that are quite obvious and easy to find. But some less obvious spots are also spread in the streets in that area, and the Air Libre bookshop is one of those! Situated in the corner street just behind the Church Sainte-Croix, L’Air Libre is a bookshop and – even better – the type where you can take your time, sit on a couch or even have a drink and on Sundays, you can order a homemade cake!

The first room (where you can take a seat) is dedicated to selected new books and a few independent magazines. In the second room, you’ll find second hand books.

Mehdi, the owner, studied philosophy and, for years, worked in one famous and very well known bookshop: so if you have a specific request regarding a book, he will surely help you. As he is super friendly and chill and the place is small: when visitors start discussions, it’s easy to also be part of it or simply enjoy what they are talking about.

I love to go there with a book (even ones I haven’t bought there). I’ve also seen people coming with their laptop (and I did bring mine once). But to be honest, I don’t think I’ll do it again: somehow I see the place like a little peaceful island where I can escape from the digital world.
