The first detail I discovered about the neighborhood I was going to live in: a step away I could find the best frites in the whole of Brussels.
Maison Antoine is widely known as one of the best places for French fries made from fresh potatoes, and although I can’t be the best judge on this typical Belgian food, I admit they are very good, just perfect when you add any of those dozen of sauces available.
What I also find very attractive is the deal they made with the pubs around the square. If you see in display on the windows of the pubs a “happy cone”, you are sure that they are happy to serve you a beer while you eat your “cone” of frites: very convenient!

Debatable if the fries are the best in town. My preference is the fritkot very near the Barriere de St Gilles. Also, the queues are usually long at Maison Antoine because they move extremely slowly.
Dear Will,
I believe it’s normal that every one of us has different tastes for food, this is my personal review of this place.
I do like the frites at Maison Antoine, but I do agree that queues are pretty long there, but I had the same at Barriere de St. Gilles one (and good fries too!), and it was -5 outside!
Let’s find more places in town and make a map ;)
Renata
erm, except it’s well known that these are no longer the best frites in town since the old owner sold up…
Excellent fries indeed !!
And if you want to know how to cut them properly, check this interesting (humoristic) video !!!
