It’s time to go out and get a tan! Or time to just soak up some vitamin D. It’s time to be happy, because it’s been proven that sunshine makes people happy. So it’s time to try out some of our locals’ favorite outdoor bars & restaurants for the summer of 2012!
1. La Terrasse de l’Hippodrome (by Yamina el Atlassi)
This beachy terrace l’Hippodrome is just the epitome of perfect relaxing on a summery day. You’ll think you’ve landed in paradise!
2. Les Cercles des Voyageurs (by Renata Riva)
A lovely and easy-to-find bar in the heart of Brussels, right around the corner from Manneken Pis! During the evenings Les Cercles des Voyageurs hosts concerts, movies and more, but during the day with lovely weather it’s great to sit outside and watch the world go by. Renata Riva says, “What fascinates me is its laid back atmosphere with soft music and comfortable armchairs.”
3. Café Gecko (by Ianthe Lancsweert)
Wine, food, good service, and a view. All accounted for with this quiet Café Gecko. Ianthe Lancsweert writes, “A nice bar where it is great to sit quietly on the weekend.”
4. Le Comptoir (by Yamina el Atlassi)
“The place is welcoming in any season : if it’s cold, the interior is cozy and if the weather is good, the big terrace makes it certainly a very nice spot.” says Yamina el Atlassi. Combine that with great food and great prices, a good area and good service, and this place ticks all the boxes!

5. Rue Jourdan (by Wouter Spitters)
“The Rue Jourdan is one of the places to be when you’re looking for a cozy street full of nice terraces in the Louiza Area”
This quote by spotter Wouter Spitter really says it all, if you’re looking for Al Fresco dining, you’ll definitely find something to suit your needs on this street!
6. Au Soleil (by Wouter Spitters)
Local Wouter Spitters highly recommends this bar, saying “this cosy place is definitely one of my favorite bars in Brussels.”
Au Soleil is located in a no-car-zone, so you won’t be inhaling petrol fumes along with your coffee or beer!
7. Mappamundo (by Renata Riva)
The place to go to for good beer and sunshine! Renata Riva even says, “My favorite bar of all times is Mappamundo…” What praise!
8. Mamma Roma (by Renata Riva)
Mamma Roma serves cheap but delicious pizza. Our residential Italian even says so! And that’s high praise :)
So enjoy a tasty pizza on Mamma Roma’s terrace, for the ultimate Italian experience. Al Fresco dining.
9. Posto al Sole (by Wouter Spitters)
Here’s another great terrace spot where you can enjoy a tasty pizza in the sun. The closest you can get to Italy for € 8!
“The pizza is tasty, made with a smile and – always important because it’s a good sign – also approved by the Italians living in the neighborhood.”
10. Chaff (by Wouter Spitters)
The last of this selection, Chaff, also has a great terrace where you can wind down with a beer and watch the nearby flea market. Or…be wound up during a particularly exciting board-game!
“Oh yeah, before I forget to tell you, they have great food too ;)”
