Projections on the Walls – Art in the public space

When I walk around the Quartier Saint-Jacques (the area around the Grand Place) at night, I always like to find one of those projected pictures on the walls. It’s even more enjoyable when I point it out to whomever is with me and they are surprised and confess that they’ve never noticed the art piece before.

The light installation was made several years ago by the artist Isabelle Corten and the collective Zimmerfrei. The project is called “A travers les murs” (Through the walls) and consists of a series of pictures projected on blind walls which show scenes inside the house (or another house close by).

To be honest, while there’s a map about the different locations, I never wanted to check it out and follow the tour, I prefer stumbling upon one and being surprised.

Years later, I’m still amazed to see them, even if it’s a piece that I know already.
