My favorite place to eat in Bucharest is this place named A la Turca. They offer the classic Arabic menu and the usual Turkish foods in a tiny restaurant.
They are most famous for their takeaway, but they also have this small (7-8 tables) place right beside it. I recommend the tables in the back, in the second room, this is the only way you can have some comfort and privacy.
They cook with fresh ingredients and using their big oven, it uses half of the kitchen space and it’s well worth it. When you order food, they bring you a fresh out of the oven pita (puffy and hot at first, then crunchy when it gets colder). Also the lahmacun (aka Turkish or Armenian pizza) is incredible, prepared only after you order it and served hot. I also love the lentil soup, even though everybody does and usually they’ve run out at the end of the day. The Adana or Urfa kebaps are the backbone of their menu, but you have many, many other great options (the tomato kebap for example). The homemade ayran, bottled lemonade (uludag) and the Turkish coffee (not sand made though) will complete the experience.
It’s important to know that the restaurant and the take away booth are both opened until 3 in the morning.
