Cărturești Carusel is one of the most beautiful buildings in the Old Town of Bucharest. Built in 1860, Chrissoveloni Palace belonged to the most powerful family of bankers in Romania. Today, the building hosts probably the biggest (and probably most instagramable) book store in the country.
Leaving the architecture and the history of the building aside, let’s focus on what you can find at Cărturești Carusel. There are various literature books and non-fictional books – history, science, self-development or philosophy or gastronomy texts, for example.
Although it is mainly a book store, you can also buy gifts, products by Romanian designers, music albums, films, board games or manga. There is even an entire section of books in English and some books in French.
Last time I have visited it, I have noticed they also have an interesting selection of contemporary Moldavian writers.
