Think ‘cosiness of the shop around the corner’. Only without the corner. Or books. Or a cute Meg Ryan for that matter.
Plus it’s easy to miss – it happened to me too. Luckily for me, the smell of freshly roasted coffee led me to the right place; luckily for you, I’m here to tell you about it.
Located right across the square from Dianei 4, Delicatese Florescu (Florescu Deli) is the “baby” of Gheorghe Florescu, a 60-something year old Bucharest icon who has dedicated over forty years of his life to anything related to coffee. He can talk for hours about why this or that type of coffee is different (not better) than others and he can do it in such a way to make you believe that the gourmet coffee you buy is the most precious thing you can get your hands on. It is. Coffee addicts will certainly know what I’m talking about.
If you’re not into coffee, there are other gems you can buy too, from all sorts of nuts roasted on the spot, to chocolates and a small selection of wines and Armenian cognac, as well as CDs with music that remind you of inter-war Bucharest.
You can have your coffee to go as well – and you can savor it in Gradina Icoanei or Ioanid park (check the Gradina article) and just enjoy the calm and quietness of a weekend morning. See you there!
