I love that Bucharest has something new to offer every year in terms of summer terraces and chill-out places where you can hang out with friends. And I especially love it when they do that by repurposing old and decrepit places. One such place is Terasa Monteoru.
Located five minutes away from Gradina Eden (check the Gradina Eden article) and created by the same guys who set up Acuarela (check the Acuarela article), the place is definitely worth paying a visit to. The terrace is set up behind a haunted-looking house, which is one of the most beautiful ones in Bucharest. Built in 1874 and bearing the name of a famous Romanian landlord, the house has a gorgeous Greek statue in the front – which is probably the only way you’d recognize the place. The entrance is also quite conspicuous: as you pass the massive iron gates and face the house, go through the very narrow space to the left of the building.
The general dolce far niente of the place is perfect to wind down after a long day or simply to share a glass of wine over chillaxing background music. They also organise music concerts with an alternative touch. Try it at night as well – it will look like a different place altogether, with the “haunted” house looming over you!
