The story of this new bar is really a fairy tale. Built as a summer theatre back in the fifties, Budai Parkszínpad became an important part of Buda’s cultural life with musicals, concerts and theatrical plays. Then in 2005, it was closed and deteriorated fast… But this year’s June, the reconstructions have finished and a bar with the same name has opened, becoming the newest hip place in Budapest.
So what’s interesting about it? Due to the theater-like arrangement, Budai Parkszínpad is like no other bar: divided at the center by the stage, you can drink at what used to be the auditorium. In the old musician’ pit, kids can play in the sand for the enjoyment of their parents who can finally savor an ice-cold beer or fröccs (wine spritzer) or an elderberry-flavored lemonade under the lights and colorful textiles which serve as decoration. Oh, and don’t forget the food: as far as I noticed, meaty goodness made fresh on request.
Budai Parkszínpad is just on the side of the Feneketlen-tó, a little lake and park where you can take a stroll after you’ve had your drink at this amazing place. And last, important info: being an open-air space, they are only open when it doesn’t rain!
