Everybody in Budapest has its own spot on Liszt Ferenc square, mine is Café Vian. This is the place where I met Sanne and Bart, the founders of Spotted by Locals.
I chose this restaurant because I feel comfortable inside and outside. If I have to wait for somebody I can have a closer look of the paintings on the walls as it is a gallery as well.
The pictures are changed monthly or so. On cold winters I like to have one of the lovely grogs or a hot spicy mulled wine at a window table.
In nice weather I tend to sit outside (if I find a free table) admiring the crowd on the square. I always spot someone I know as the square is really one of the melting places of the city.
If you ask me what is the best food there I cannot really tell, as usually I eat the Club Sandwich (grilled sandwich with a half-portion of salad), my favourite (sorry, but since the first time I tasted I cannot change my diet) , but according to my friends (who are not as loyal to their favourite dish) everything else is very tasty as well.
It is also a perfect spot for breakfast as the morning plates are abundant.
