Everyone has a weakness. Admitting I am a normal person brings the conclusion: I also have one (or more). It is definitely the love of antiques, not only furniture, jewels, statues but paintings. I am also dying for auctions. I started to collect paintings 5 years ago, visiting auctions just pump up my adrenaline, a great feeling.
Budapest is a great place to discover antiques shops and art galleries. Falk Miksa street (Miksa Falk by the way was a writer and politician, editor of the German-language newspaper Pester Lloyd) is our main antique area.
Falk Milksa starts at the Parliament and leads to nearby Margit bridge. This street is full of the best antiques shops and galleries. Virág Judit Gallery and Kieselbach Gallery (20th century art) are a must, in these two, auctions are also held, so there is a possibility you just bump into one. I am an art deco maniac, but here, believe me, you can find everything from baroque to modern, almost every gallery worth a visit.
During spring and fall two very popular festivals are organized here: the Collector’s night and the antique and modern art festival called Falk Art Forum. Every time more than 50 galleries participate in the event offering plenty of exhibitions, concerts and kids programmes. For exact dates check the festival’s webpage.
So if you desire a special gift, maybe a souvenir or are only seeking a walk in a pleasant street I advise you to check it out!

i was recently in budapest and was in a gallery on falk miksa u. there were some paintings of a woman who owns the gallery or works there. they were very unique because there was blood coming from her mouth. does anyone know the name of the gallery??? i can not find the card. thanks.
It sounded great in this article, but it’s even better in real life. Amazing collection of antique shops!
Merci Fred for the compliment:)
I don’t know who besides you would admit you’re a normal person
, but thanks for the article and the address. I’ll definitely pass by Falk Miksa next time (actually I think I already did…)
