If you’re a vegetarian or simply fancy having a good healthy bite in Budapest, going to the butcher‘s for lunch – though a popular thing to do here – might not be for you. No worries: wherever you stand, there’s probably a hummus bar around the corner!
Budapest has several of them (it’s a franchise so they all serve the same food in a similar looking place). To name a few, there is one next to the Parlement (Alkotmány utca 20), one by the Basilica (Október 6. utca 19), one by the lovely Egyetem tér (Kecskeméti utca 1), one on Nagymező utca 10 and my second favorite: at the corner of Wesselényi and Síp.
At Hummus bar you’ll find hummus (= mashed chickpeas) plates, served with falafels, beans, mushrooms and other ingredients. You can also get a pita bread full with falafel and vegetables, as well as soups, and tasty oriental salads and desserts. FYI 2 Hummus bars are totally meat free.
Everything is freshly made, good and filling. Add a quick and foreigner-friendly service, affordable prices and here you go: happy for the day!
These are perfect spots if you’re in a rush, hungry, don’t know what to order, want a break from Hungarian delights… among other reasons to come. They are conveniently located next to the main touristic attractions though local students make up for the biggest part of their customers (you too can get a 10% with your Student ID!). And they do home delivery too!
