So you thought you knew everything about Budapest’s nightlife and never heard about R33? Well, time you caught up!
R33 stands as one of the most alternative concert halls in Budapest. The concert program speaks for itself (check it out here): a lot of rock but not only that. Some famous Hungarian and foreign bands are often invited to take over the stage.
Once it turned out that some world-championship pre-final of beat boxing was taking place right in front of me! Love those random evenings!
R33’s setting and location is unbeatable. For those who know, it’s crafted in the same spirit as Bakelit (see the Bakelit studio article): factory buildings found a new life in music evangelism. Which always gives a very specific touch to the parties around here.
And when the weather is good you can enjoy the outdoor garden. Inside, it’s a mix of false (or real?) baroque above the stage, surrounded with flippers and sofas.
Ah and I would say they DON’T serve the best fröccs or wine ever so you’d better go for a beer!
The big advantage of R33 however is that the place is not far from the centre. It’s 10 minutes away from Boraros tér (tram 4, 6 all night) and close to such places as Budapest Park. But a bit tricky to find: go inside the factory complex, take a left, then a right, head to the garden.
FYI, it’s not only a concert place, it’s also a foundation with rehearsal rooms for bands.
