This is nothing special – just some fossils in a historical building complex…
The castle was built in 1896 as part of the Millennial festivities of the Hungarian conquest of the Carpathian Basin. Officials organized these festivities which lasted for several months and celebrated the history, culture and economic achievements of the country. The Heroes’ square was built during that time too.
The agricultural sector has always been one of the most important sectors of Hungary’s economy; consequently, today’s government decided to create a place, an agricultural museum, which would showcase the history and development of agriculture and display the latest technological inventions.
In the yard of the museum you can find 10-million-year-old pieces of bark from trees from the Miocene age.
When I was a kid, my father showed them to me with endless enthusiasm, although I could not understand why these stones were so interesting at the time. Twenty years later, I might have started to understand the meaning of these fossils…
