Nobody really thinks of Budapest when it comes to fashion and design. But if you start checking these spots and websites: www.stylewalker.hu, Orange optika, Tisza shoes shop, Rododendron, you’ll realize how creative Hungarians can be. Of course, it’s not obvious, nor massive. Shops are scattered here and there in the city, nonetheless local designers can make very cool stuff!
So what is WAMP all about? It’s a design market taking place twice a month in an indoor grandiose building right in the city centre on Váci utca during the winter and outdoor on Erzsébet tér during the summer (check the website to know where and when). It’s a great hit among foreigners and locals alike.
With its new winter location, WAMP grew to an impressive design megastore! I still warmly recommend it, the atmosphere remains the same as when the market started a few years ago.
You can spend hours strolling there, buying what you can afford (the prices are now even tagged in Euros). If your budget is very limited it might be a good idea to take the designers’ fliers and go directly to their workshop!. You’ll find lots of jewellery, clothes, bags, shops… but also teas, chocolate and other delicacies.
If you don’t fancy buying anything, it’s still worth having a look at what Hungarian fashion is up to nowadays!
