The Game Room at Chicago Athletic Association is a place where friends and family can enjoy an active night out while also grabbing a bite and a drink or two. The hotel itself is a historic refurbished building on Chicago’s preeminent street, Michigan Avenue. It used to be an athletic club in the early 20th century and the hotel pays homage to the building’s past with The Game Room. The space feels cozy and relaxing yet is spacious enough to host large groups.
Games offered like shuffleboard, billiards and foosball are fun but the show stopper here is the indoor bocce court. Bocce is the perfect social game to play while drinking a beer or cocktail. The chalk court has an old school feel and games with friends tend to get competitive. Sometimes there is wait to get on the court but it’s never too long. There is a games coordinator who takes down names so that everyone gets a chance to play.
The Game Room also serves clever dishes with an upscale twist on finger foods. The Bavarian pretzel is a solid choice and a real winner here. The cheese was whipped with beer and the pretzel was soft and salty. I also really enjoyed the lamb sausage sandwich. The sausage had a nice snap to it and was covered in a beer mustard.
The Game Room is a place where I go to have a relaxing night with friends playing games and having a couple drinks.
