Gilt Bar is part of the Hogsalt Hospitality restaurant group which boasts of other bigwigs like Au Cheval (check article) and Bavette’s. This is our favourite neighbourhood date night spot due to the proximity, chic ambience and the menu which is designed to be shared. The cocktails are delicious and they have a good wine list, but you can also bring your own bottle of wine if you are willing to share a glass with another table.
The menu has dishes inspired by the season. There is a toast section with toppings like roasted garlic with sweet balsamic vinegar, or the really creamy roasted bone marrow, but my favourite is the slow-roasted meatball which has a spicy kick. The portions are big and can easily pass off as mains. Also on offer are salads, seafood and wood-fired mains like the bacon cheeseburger and marinated ribeye.
For dessert, you have a choice of diner-style pies or different cakes – get the warm brownies! Planning to have a nightcap after dinner? Put your name down on the wait list for The Library which is a lounge hidden away below the restaurant offering cocktails and the same menu as Gilt Bar.
