I found this place recently and I’ve gotta say it may now be my all time favorite shop in Chicago. Maybe I just like weird old stuff but places like this is what makes Chicago great in my opinion. This is a thrift store on crack. If you want an old uniform, they’ve got it. Used tobacco pipes? Check. Samovar? They have at least five. A bronze cauldron? Yes they do. Costumes for sale; costumes for rent? Of course. Old Radios? Sure! I don’t think the problem will be wondering whether or not your vintage purchase is in the store the main issue will be finding it in the two stories of crap they have in a moderately organized fashion.
I was going to spend five minutes here and ended up wandering around for two hours. They have chains downstairs. I mean, why? It’s a confusing enigma that is so very awesome.
Make sure you know what you are getting yourself into before you take the hike up to Lost Eras. It’s just two blocks from the Howard red line stop up in Rogers Park so that’s convenient but it will take some time to get there. In my opinion, it’s totally worth it. Where else could you get Anime Porn sold right next to a picture showing the growing cycles of pearl oysters? Worth it!
This is a fantastic place to rent costumes if you have a costume party to attend but don’t want to comitt to buying one.
