Pippins Tavern is not like most establishments in the area. Located in the Gold Coast, near the Chicago red line and just a couple of blocks from Michigan Avenue where you find high end shopping and steakhouses, it truly is a hole in the wall.
In the warmer months, you will see a small outdoor section on the sidewalk. When you make your way inside, Pippins shows its age. It appears to be sagging in some areas and is also lopsided. To me – a lover of dive bars – this only adds to the character. It is most certainly an Irish style pub – very green on the inside with a tin roof.
There is a very nice selection of beer on tap and the patrons range from their 30s – 50s. As for food, they have some of the Chicago staples like hotdogs (numerous styles), Italian beef and Italian combo (Italian sausage on an Italian beef). If you’re feeling like having a late night, Pippin’s is open until 04:00 or 05:00 every night.
