Books as far as the eye can see- my personal heaven! Yours as well? No? But still, you will like this place as much as I do, I’m sure.
The main public library of Cologne is located in the city centre, next to the Neumarkt. The library is open for everyone, not only for members. In the entrance hall you can rest a bit from the hustle and bustle of the town, have a coffee and skim through some of the magazines. You can also nestle yourself into one of the colorful egg-chairs and have a short rest.
The library is also the unofficial local branch of the tourist office. You will find loads of information, e.g. flyers about cultural events in Cologne here.
You are of course also free to borrow books, DVDs or CDs… which is what I usually do when I go there. And, thank god, there is no limit to how many items you may borrow. But if you want to do so, you first have to get a library account, that will cost you €38 per year.
Ready to enter these hallowed halls? 😉
