Wullf+Konstali is a strange little shop. It is part small café, part coffee house, but mostly it’s a place where you can buy delicious things. They call themselves a Food Shop and I think that is quite an accurate name.

In the small shop there are a few places to sit, an Apple iMac with internet access for free use, free wi-fi, but most people stop in to pick something up on the way somewhere.

In the morning people choose the freshly made bread from the artisanal bakery on their way to work. Later in the day the delicious sandwiches and salads are popular with local business people and various workers in the area. When people start getting off work they stop by to bring home Beuf Bourgoignon or Spagetti Bolognese.

For the sweet tooth, there is a large selection of quality chocolates from Summerbird as well as home made cookies, brownies and cupcakes. And of course a selection of coffees, tea and juices.

The bakery is located on Lergravsvej 57, 2300 København S and has the same hours and selection as Wulff+Konstali on Isafjordsgade as well as an open bakery where you can watch the bakers in action.

Gourmandiet is small butcher shop on a quiet side street in Østerbro. A delicious little shop with only the best quality butcher goods. Apart from some of the best beef and pork in Denmark the shop also sells sausages, pates and other butcher goods.

While their butcher products are great and worth a visit, the real attraction is what happens at night after butcher-shops normally close. The owners thought that it was a shame to have such a nice room just sitting around, so they started opening their doors Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

A few tables has been setup around the shop and a chef and a waiter has been hired. At night they serve a simple menu of with a lone starter (a plate of Danish salamis, cured ham and other cold cuts), a selection of different cuts of beef with todays garnish and finally a single dessert (usually something delicious with Danish apples).

The décor is simple but with a few nice details: The chairs are lined with sheepskins and the wall is full of shelves with various delicacies.

Gourmandiet serves fantastic Danish meat in a very homely atmosphere. There is only a handful of tables so reservations are essential, but it ensures a very personal dining experience facilitated by the very attentive staff.

On one of the most overlooked small streets – Sankt Peders Stræde – in the medieval part of Copenhagen, roams a wild dragon. But not just any dragon. It’s a Dessert Dragon and she placed her cake workshop right here. At least that’s the story that can be read from the name of this tiny cakeshop.

Literally translated it means The Dessert Dragons Cake Workshop. The workshop is a tiny shop with the majority of the space used for production. The customer service space is about 1×3 meters so if there is a line it extends into the street.

You can choose your cake from the window and many varieties are available. Ranging from international classics such as cheesecake, carrot cake, extremely rich brownies and cupcakes to Danish specialities like the Sarah Bernhardt, Linse – a vanilla custard tart and my personal favorite: The Raspberry Cut – A strange flat cake consisting of two pieces of thin cookie with raspberry jam in between topped with white glaze.

It’s impossible not to get carried away when visiting the dragon. Everything looks so delicious and I always end up buying way too many cakes. The dragon also produces custom made larger cakes on request.

In a residential part of Frederiksberg, right next to Frederiksberg Hospital, lies a small and unseemly take-out shop. Fortunately I’m lucky enough to live within biking distance as this is the only place in Copenhagen where you can get real American BBQ food!

The shop serves up a traditional BBQ menu with a simple range of smoked foods. The main number is of course the Texas-style baby-back Ribs, but you can also get chicken wings, beef and pulled pork sandwiches. Everything can of course be supplemented with side orders such as Macaroni & cheese and Smokehouse Beans. It doesn’t get more authentic than that!

Prices are low and the owners and staff are American expats so the authenticity is complete. Be prepared to order in American English! If BBQ is not your thing, the BBQ Shack has a Taco Shop sibling (same owners) right next door serving tacos and burritos. I always end up buying from both places if my friends can’t decide what they want.

Wonderful layer cakes (or lagkager, in danish). Amazing hot chocolate. A journey into the past. Those are a few things I can say about The Conditori La Glace. It’s a very popular place between the locals, so be ready to wait for a table. But let me tell you, it’s totally worth the wait.

And while you wait, if that’s the case, try to pick the flavor of cake you want! What a challenge! When you have such an assortment, it gets really difficult to make up your mind. Last time I was there, I tried The Golden Tower one and it was superb!

The Conditori La Glace is the oldest in Denmark and it was founded in 1870. So, when you go in their beautiful rooms it’s really like stepping into the past. Some of their furniture is from 1890′s and one of the rooms have been kept almost like in 1924! That’s what I mean about the journey. It’s such an experience to go there!

And it doesn’t stop here. The location couldn’t be better. Imagine a day in Copenhagen where you are strolling down the famous shopping street Strøget, right in the heart of the city, carrying lots of bags (or not), feeling a bit tired… Wouldn’t be just wonderful to stop for a while, have a delicious piece of layer cake and a nice cup of hot chocolate? Visit La Glace and you will know what I mean!

This really is the closest to a home made goods you can get to in this city. Krummen og Kagen (or Crumb and Cake) is a cute little home bakery meets a café – combination in the very heart of the fancy residential area of Østerbro.

Whether you are in the mood for a salty snack or a sweet treat to accompany your afternoon coffee, this is your spot to visit. They offer a variety of home baked goods from cakes and buns to breakfast rolls and sandwiches. I especially like a breakfast roll of theirs filled with some good cheese, enjoyed with a huuuuuuge cup of excellent coffee and to finish the snacking with a piece of raspberry pie (if wanted, whipped cream can be added, do try!).

Krummen og kagen has also the interior suited to the homemade – concept: wooden chairs, benches covered with pillows and even a rocking chair! They also sell some excellent chocolates, not a bad idea to bring as a gift.

So this is where they keep the tasty, rich -flavored bread! Foodshop 26 is again one of the cafés in Copenhagen gone wild about ecological food. But oh how it is tasty! The flour and the seeds used to the bread they bake themselves is stone-grinded and without any additives.

Along with the baked goods they also make their marmalades themselves, which by the way are the tastiest marmalades I’ve ever tasted! I fell in love with their Apricot-vanilla mix, that is spiced with real Tahiti -vanilla, definitely worth a try!

I’d recommend visiting Foodshop 26 especially in the morning, and ordering one of their Morning plates. They have plenty of variations to choose from, including bread of your choice accompanied for example by eggs, yoghurt topped with maple syrup, variety of sausages and cheeses and jam. Add a can of their fresh-squeezed orange juice and a café latte and you get a tasty, nutritious and filling start to your morning. And even if you’re travelling with a bigger group, there’s a chance to enjoy your breakfast together around the bigger communal breakfast -style table.

As the name implies, this is also a food shop. There is a wide selection of treats, mostly ecological, from jams, chocolates and cakes to salty treats, ready-meals and daily groceries. There is also a “sister-shop” called Foodshop 55 close to Bella Center metro st.

Go enjoy!

With every rice- including dish one has a choice between white and brown rice. They also offer a variety of organic and biodynamic drinks (delish!) and Japanese beer. My ultimate favorite here is the Alaska Inside out Maki’s, with that gorgeous eco-salmon and fresh avocado. Top that with some Spicy Ebi (with shrimp, cucumber and spicy sauce) and my favorite snacks, steamed Edamame -soybeans with sea salt and lemon. I could have dinner here every day!

In the very beautiful street of Grønnegade, Inner city, they have a small, cute restaurant and a takeout-shop and another takeout on the cool and urban Nørrebro -area’s street Jægersborggade.
At the very end of Amagerbrogade (the main shopping street of Amager) lies one of the weirdest and geekiest places in Copenhagen. Situated between a driving school and Copenhagen Airport, lies a small fast-food place where hordes of people gather whenever the weather is nice. Old people, young people, parents and their children, they all come together to participate in the fascination of flight.

The main feature of Flyvergrillen – the Airplane Grill, is that it is right next to the two main runways of Copenhagen Airport. You have a great view of planes landing and taking off. They are actually quite large when you see them this up close. On top of happy children eating ice cream, you can meet the Plane Spotters. Usually there is a couple of spotters hanging out with their notebooks and binoculars, taking note of every plane coming by. I’m always surprised how fascinated people are.

The fast-food place itself is not that big. There is room for 15-20 people inside, but they have a large outdoor seating area with view over the runways. There is a playground for the kids. The food is traditional danish fast-food: mediocre burgers, pork sandwiches, hotdogs and ice cream. In wintertime you can expect a line for hot coffee!

I have come to notice that with a little effort it is possible to travel around the world just staying in Copenhagen- food wise that is. LêLê nhàhàng -or just LêLê among me and my friends -is a great addition to the large choice of restaurants offering food from foreign cultures.

During the years in Copenhagen LêLê has grown to be the biggest -and the most popular – Vietnamese kitchen. They started with just one “streetkitchen” offering take-out -food, and today they have a restaurant and a takeaway on Vesterbrogade, street kitchen on H.C. Andersens Boulevard next to the famous Rådhuspladsen and another takeaway on Østerbrogade.

Why do I like LêLê? Simple answer: Vietnamese Spring rolls. Especially the dish from takeaway where the rolls are served with rice noodles, vegetables and fish sauce -simple, tasty and healthy! Also the brunch where you have 5choices gets points from me – as one of the choices includes only sweet treats. Having a serious bacon-eggs -brunch loving friend with you? No problem, LêLê offers something for them too.

This is especially for you who has never tasted Vietnamese food- go taste and fall in love!
