When you are in Denmark, you might want to experience some of what the country has to offer, right? A good start is trying the danish cuisine! Hansens Gamle Familiehave (or Hansens old family garden) is on top of my list for traditional danish food.
They have lunch menus with delicious smørrebrød (open sandwiches), herrings, hamburgers and other types of traditional food. It comes in a big platter and stands right in the middle of the table so, be careful, the portions are quite large and it’s possible to share between many people. The evening menu is more for fish and meat lovers, with many options, being the smoked salmon plate one of my favorites. The vegetarian dish is also great!
It’s located in Frederiksberg, a great neighborhood, walking distance from a beautiful park, with the old yellow Frederiksberg Palace, that used to be summer residence for the royal family and the Zoo. The restaurant is very big and has a great atmosphere, specially in the summer when they open the roof. Make a reservation if you are with a big group, as it is always full.
Every time I have visitors over and they want to try danish food, this is one of the first places that comes to my mind. It’s probably not the cheapest place you will find, but it’s definitely, in my opinion, one of the best. Great food and great service, I couldn’t ask for more!
