Kate’s Joint is hidden in plain sight. I have walked past it many times without ever noticing it, so it wasn’t until friends invited me that I was introduced to the deliciousness of Kate’s Joint.
The restaurant is situated in the only pedestrian street on Nørrebro, Blågårdsgade, a lively street with lots of people. But even though Kate’s is a very popular local diner, it doesn’t make much fuss about its own existence from the outside: a brownish building with two big windows and some outdoor seating in summer. There’s no sign on the building, you just have to know …
The food is super delicious, a spicy home-cooking style with inspiration taken from various cuisines of the Southern hemisphere, including of course vegetarian options. If you are with four or more people, ask for a sample menu for sharing and let the kitchen decide. It’s not actually on the menu card, but instead of having to choose a dish individually, you get a variety of dishes for sharing so that everyone gets the opportunity to taste the delights.
There are no tables-for-two in the restaurant so be prepared to share a table.
Reservation must be made by phone, and do make a reservation even on a weekday; this is a busy place.
By the way; watch the step when you enter.
