Do you have time for a walk? I often go here to relax and take in some of the fresh air, and I even made a few friends too. Right next to Valbyparken, which is the best park in Copenhagen in my opinion, lies a series of beautiful allotment gardens. The whole area of Sydhavn was full of these gardens back in the day. Fortunately, it’s still quite easy to find the survivors. It’s a fragile culture, but the people living here are fighting for their rights to keep their houses. The authenticity and the local culture is still very much alive, which is easy to spot.
One of the best parts is by the old wharf. Here you can still buy fresh fish from the fishermen early in the morning… if you’re lucky! There is an original and artistic beauty about the houses here, together with the sense of freedom and peace.
I think this area is one of the true local gems of Copenhagen. So many cool things to discover all the time, so many local boat owners to talk to and so many good times at the local restaurant called Tutten and a few other hidden spots between the houses.
I have one of the houses in the area called Musikbyen and soon I will build a new house in number 406, so please come say hello anytime. You are more than welcome.
