The Living Room Copenhagen (by Morten Pors Nielsen)

The Living Room has a split personality – with an ecological conscience. The place is in two floors with upstairs being a nice and busy coffee/tea bar (with a good view of the busy outside), and downstairs coming across as an almost cave-like retro lounge. The lounge has an open fire and is literally crammed with all sorts of furniture, including chaise longs and your grandparent’s old leather chairs and coffee tables. Dark, intimate and very cosy. Sometimes there is live (DJ) music.

The Living Room source excellent coffee and are serious about ecology and Fair Trade. You will find a wide selection of coffees and teas along with various café food (cakes, paninis and so on). Most of it with an ecological pedigree.

The Living Room is located in Larsbjørnsstræde – notoriously famous for once being one of Copenhagens darkest neighbourhoods full of hookers and hoodlums. But this has changed and the whole area surrounding, the Latin Quarter, is one of Copenhagen’s most dynamic and off mainstream places to be.

Until recently, The Living Room was known as Robert’s Coffee and part of the franchise chain so named. The owners, however, decided to leave the franchise and relaunched as The Living Room with a similar concept.

  1. I went there last Sunday for the first time. I was amazed with the actual size of it because the lower part of the cafe was unseen until one actually got in do went down the stairs to the lower level. It was very cool! I sat on a couch in the corner next to the Morrocco tea room. It really has a comfy vibe and great black coffee as well.
