This quirky structure is a nice, ironic element in a city area, which I think has an otherwise very mundane architectural expression.
Originally, it was designed as an instrument of advertising in 1888 when Tuborg Brewery launched the first ever bottled beer. It was erected on the site where the City Hall of Copenhagen now resides, and it was then later moved to its current location in Hellerup. The gigantic bottle now serves as an observation tower, which initially demonstrated the first mechanically advanced elevator in Denmark, but has since been remodelled with a staircase.
Although the board of cultural heritage in Copenhagen decided it had no historical or architectural value (I strongly disagree) it has been unconditionally preserved and pinpoints an important, however rather inappropriate, element in Danish culture. I know I am always happy to pass by this enormous green wonder, when I visit my grandmother nearby.
As far as I know, you can’t officially enter the bottle, though it has a little unguarded door at the bottom. But I’ve heard stories about people just going for it and sometimes with luck. But of course you didn’t hear that from me…
