What could be greater than sharing the street you live in with a good record store? Nothing, right?! So I’m feeling very lucky because this year VinylKollektivet opened its basement doors just around the corner from where I live. I have no doubt that I will have a long, rewarding, and probably expensive, relationship with this particular record den.
The three gentlemen behind the shop – Jan, Mikael and Morten – are experts in each of their respective genres, ranging from darkjazz and drone to new wave and indie. The result is an eclectic and inspiring collection of records that you won’t find anywhere else. If you’re up for a chat about music and vinyl, you have definitely come to the right place. The guys might even offer you a bevvy: I was introduced to my first ever sip of aloe vera drink by Mikael, when making my latest purchase.
For now, the shop is a bit of a secret, not by choice but due to its location: you sort of have to know that it’s there. It’s definitely worth the effort, though. Given its closeness to both Stefansgade and Jægersborggade there are plenty of reasons to visit the neighborhood anyway, so there’s really no excuse for not dropping by.
