Anglers Rest – Country pub

Although the Angler’s Rest is just a few kilometres away from the city centre, it feels like a proper country pub. It’s found on the edge of the picturesque Georgian village of Chapelizod and decorated in a rustic French style, with flowers and candles decorating the tables.

A few minutes walk from the Knockmaroon Gate of the Phoenix Park, it makes a lovely end point after a walk through the park. It dates back to 1865, and is now run by Wrights of Howth, so seafood fresh from Dublin bay like chowder and fish and chips are served throughout the day.

In winter, I love coming out for a pint of Guinness by the fireplace, or on the sofa in the little suntrap terrace at the front. They also have a large beer terrace for the occasional sunny Irish summer’s day. In the evenings, there are also traditional music sessions in the bar.
