Established as a charitable organization in the mid 1970’s by the Overend family, Airfield Farm is a place to come home to. Only a 15-minute LUAS ride South to Balally from St Stephen’s Green, the working farm is open for the express purpose of showing young generations what such a place is like.
Airfield is truly a gift that keeps on giving. Airfield is ideal for families, as well as for individuals wanting to get in touch with a simpler era, and for a good bit of fresh air. Enter the beautifully refurbished family home, for some history, or visit the farmyard, where you can see how the jersey cows are milked and the eggs collected. Free tours are available daily.
Don’t let the infamous changing Irish weather deter you from a visit here. You may take refuge in the family home, or take the children into the covered play area designed specifically for wet and windy days. Keep checking their website for amazing seasonal events; two of my absolute favourites are the Midsummer Medley in June, and the enchanting Dickensian Christmas Fair running the entire month of December. Also, if you are renting a car, there is plenty of free parking available!
