Authentic taste – this is what my Japanese friend said when I brought her here once to J2 Grill & Sushi. I discovered this place long ago and keep coming back as food here is indeed delicious. This restaurant has two “sisters” now, one – right in town near Trinity College, and another one – in co. Meath. I still prefer the first Dublin location on the North Quay, next to the river. Especially when it gets warmer as the staff organises a little terrace with a few tables for sitting outside. But even on a cold day I always enjoy the river view from the inside, having a warm soup or a cup of green tea.
This small restaurant gets very busy during lunch hours, then closes at 15:00 during the week and re-opens at 17:00. Therefore, I recommend to come here for a dinner or on a weekend.
Grilled tempura for a starter and a sushi roll with eel & a bowl of miso soup – this is my usual choice in J2. I tried all the sashimi combinations as well as other sushi – nothing ever disappointed me in this restaurant. A sushi platter for two for 20€ as per photo above was also great! Last time I went there, I was craving for a dessert and ordered a piece of extraordinarily tasty green tea cheesecake.
Cannot wait to go back!
