Lilliput Stores – Lilliputian deli

Lilliput Stores is a tiny Aladdin’s cave of gourmet food, tucked away on a side street off the main drag of Stoneybatter. It was voted the best local food shop in Ireland in 2012, and has been keeping the people of Dublin 7 in artisan cheese and quinoa since 2007. Lilliput was the name given to the land of tiny people in Dubliner Jonathan Swift’s novel ‘Gulliver’s Travels’. It is pretty appropriate for the deli, which barely has space to turn around in. Every possible shelf and space is groaning with delicious things to try from smoked paprika to organic honey.

The deli counter stocks olives, fresh cheeses and cured meats, along with daily changing sandwiches. I discovered this little gem last year and now it’s my favourite local shop. Neighbours pop in to grab a cup of coffee, or to stock up on fresh bread, fruit and vegetables or the many other organic items lining the shelves. The staff are friendly and efficient, and the inviting atmosphere will keep bringing you back time and again.
