Thomas Street in the Liberties is always busy and always noisy. So I went into Manning’s Bakery in the hope for some peace and quiet – no chance! It’s just as busy in here as it is on the street outside but it shouldn’t put you off. In fact the conversations and chats you can hear here prove how popular it is with local people.
Manning’s Bakery offers a good range of sandwiches and the kind of decorated cakes and pastries that seem to be fairly common in Irish bakeries (i.e., lots of pink icing!)
Food is available for take away too and the staff are very patient as you try to make yourself heard over the noise!

For the best breakfast rolls in Dublin (big claim, I know, and not perhaps the most obvious gourmet item to be publicizing) head round the corner onto Meath Street and to St Catherine’s Bakery. Massive, delicious and only €2.50
