Every Sunday, come rain or shine, food producers from all over Ireland gather in the People’s Park in Dun Laoghaire to sell their wares. The market focuses on locally grown, sustainable and organic produce. You can pick up anything from pears grown in Wicklow and bread baked freshly on site, to sushi and traditional Thai street food. Sheridan’s Cheesemongers have an excellent stand, and the Real Olive Company is a good place to pick up some antipasti bites and olive oil soap. The park itself dates back to the 1890s and features a Victorian bandstand and tea rooms which are now occupied by a brand new Fallon & Byrne Restaurant. I spent the better part of my childhood in the playground here and love coming back.
There are over 50 vendors selling both ingredients and ready to eat food. In winter, I like to warm myself with a mug of mulled apple juice (you can get a shot of something stronger added). Afterwards, you can walk down to Joyce’s Tower or down Dun Laoghaire pier.
